Working With Me

You probably already know that good design is essential if you want to reach the right people and tell the right message, especially if you're trying to inspire change or action. You can recognise when other organisations, campaigns, or brands have a clear message and design to support that. But how do you get there?

Fast forward to the near future. We are sitting in a cafe (real or virtual), having a coffee. I'm asking you a series of questions to help you truly understand your design need. Your brain is tingling with ideas and inspiration:

  1. What's your message & who do you want to reach?

  2. What emotions do you want people to feel?

  3. What actions do you want them to take? Why should they?

  4. How might we test 1-3 to make sure they work?

Because when it comes down to it, fancy animations and trendy fonts don't matter one bit if no one can understand your design.

As we work together, I will guide you through this process with a sensitivity to help you reach a solution that will not only work and look good, but will help you to gain a new understanding of your project and its purpose. It will be an exciting journey of co-creation in which we both learn from each other and get a deep sense of pleasure from working on something that will make life more wonderful for more people.

I’ve been designing since before I knew it was a job. This showed up in a number of ways when I was a kid: drawing wild outfits on glamorous ladies, making dozens of friendship bracelets, inventing comic book characters, creating custom greeting cards for family and friends, to name a few. As a teen, I discovered that graphic design could unite my desire to create beautiful images and objects, solve problems, and earn a decent living.

I got a degree in Communications Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. I began my career in NYC at various design agencies, mostly doing graphic design and web design for fashion brands. This was both a fun and stressful time in which I learned a lot. After burning out from the Big Apple in 2013, I traveled and moved around a bit, eventually settling in Berlin in 2016. I soon got a job as a UX Designer for a large global platform for finding care (Care.com).

In the Spring of 2019, I went to a workshop hosted by aequa called “Life Architecture”. In it, we learned methods for designing a purpose-driven life. One of the exercises was to identify our core values. I realised that by continuing to work at my job, some of my core values were being ignored: social justice, equity, freedom. Around then I also stopped drinking alcohol. My clear head and the methods I learned in that workshop helped me to hear the voices of progressive movements who were shedding light on big problems facing humanity (and other living things). I felt called to step up and use my skills for projects that I believe in. I quit my job at Care.com in 2020 and have since been applying myself to some very interesting challenges—maybe yours is the next?
